Our Doctors

Dr. Herb Courtney has been building his practice in Monroe for more than 20 years.A graduate of Snohomish High School, Dr. Courtney did his undergraduate studies at Washington State University. He received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from Pacific University in 1982. His practice includes primary eye care as well as treatment of eye injuries and disease.
Dr. Courtney has resided in Snohomish with his wife since 1982. Their children are attending college. He enjoys traveling, jogging and playing jazz trombone.
Dr. Stanton Sessions joined the Monroe Vision Clinic in 1999. He provides full-scope optometric care to patients of all ages. His practice includes ocular disease management, post-surgical care of cataract, corneal disease, glaucoma, vitreo-retinal disease and contact lenses. Dr. Sessions performed his undergraduate studies at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California college of Optometry, graduating with honors in 1997. Thereafter, Dr. Sessions completed a one year residency in Seattle. His residency focused on treatment of ocular disease and surgical co-management with full therapeutic privileges.
Dr. Sessions lives with his wife and their five children in Snohomish. He enjoys traveling, boating, racquetball, golfing and alpine skiing with his family.

Dr. James Lombardo performed his undergraduate studies at Tufts University and Harvard University in Boston. He received his Doctor of Optometry at University of California, Berkeley, graduating with honors in 1996. Thereafter, Dr. Lombardo completed a one-year optometry residency at the American Lake Veterans’ Hospital in Washington, focusing on treatment of ocular disease and surgical co-management with full therapeutic privileges. He was then awarded an optometry fellowship position at Northwest Eye Surgeons, where he trained with surgical sub-specialists in corneal disease, cataract and laser refractive surgery, glaucoma and vitreo-retinal disease. At the conclusion of this fellowship, Dr. Lombardo was appointed as Regional Clinic Director and served as such for over 10 years.
Aspiring to be an owning parter in a growing medical optometric practice, Dr. Lombardo joined Dr. Courtney and Dr. Sessions at Monroe Vision Clinic in April 2008. His referral and clinical practice includes ocular disease management, post-surgical care of cataract, corneal disease, glaucoma, vitreo-retinal disease and laser refractive surgery patients.
Dr. Lombardo was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry at the 1997 International Meeting in Sydney, Australia. He has been active in education, serving as adjunct clinical instructor for the Southern California College of Optometry, Houston College of Optometry, and Pacific University College of Optometry. He has supervised fourth-year students and optometry residents rotating through his clinics. He has lectured regionally and internationally at continuing optometric education programs. He has authored articles in regional and international optometric, peer review publications, including the Journal of the American Optometry Association, the Journal of the American Academy of Optometry and England’s Optometry Today.
His interests include alpine skiing, scuba diving, weight lifting and music. He is a performing lead guitarist in a local Seattle band.
